Diarrhoea may occur due to many reasons. Maybe harmful bacteria
during cholera, dietary indiscretions in typhoid fever, ulceration
of the intestines in tuberculosis or some diseases of the liver
or pancreas could be some of them.
Suggested Treatment:
The first measure to take in diarrhoea is to begin a strict diet
of liquids. One must drink plenty of water because lack of water
may lead to dehydration.
If diarrhoea is due to weak intestines, pills made of amla (Emblica
officinalis) soaked in water to which a pinch of salt has been added
should be given to the patient twice daily.
If the kernel of an old mango is available, it may be roasted with
an equal quantity of powdered aniseed. This may be taken in six-gram
doses in the morning and evening.
Ten grams of doodhi (Euphorbia hirta) ground in water could be
drunk to check diarrhoea, or a paste made of the inner bark of the
mango tree may be applied around the navel.
Fresh pulp of bael fruit (Aegle marmelos) roasted and taken in
twenty-gram doses also helps stop diarrhoea.
Regimen
Lime juice added to water with a pinch of salt is the best drink
during diarrhoea as it prevents dehydration.
